How do I clear data from a Vectra Cognito brain or sensor before returning the appliance?

For a sensor:

Unpairing the sensor will clear the capture buffer and stop sending traffic for processing on the brain.

To perform a factory restore reset follow these steps

  1. Administrator should SSH into the device with the “vectra” user credentials:
     $ ssh vectra@name_of_my_device
  2. You will be presented with the vsupport CLI.
  3. At the prompt, run del brain:
    > del brain
  4. The process will return to the command prompt when finished.
  5. At the prompt, enter the shutdown command:
    > shutdown
  6. The device is ready for return.

For the Brain:

NOTE: The factory-restore clears all existing data including capture buffers, PCAPs, logs, backups and databases and configuration on the brain. Default databases and configurations will be setup.

The factory restore process completes the following steps:

  • Delete all data files
  • Wipe all databases
  • Delete all configuration
  • Reinstall blank/empty databases
